Saadoon-Kauldi's empire was also built on the profits of a highly successful smuggling campaign. The Kadri'Ra then used these earnings to acquire lucrative allegiances and business investments. These included allegiances among the smugglers and pirates of Soccoran space, a partnership in the Ethra Brewery, and holdings in the Caelli-Merced company. Through this last investment, Saadoon-Kauldi was a staunch supporter of the Rebel Alliance. During the height of its reign the Empire instituted a policy of genocide against the Kadri'Ra. In response, Saadoon provided the rebels with weapons shipments through the Caelli-Merced Syndicate on Soccorro.

After Saadoon's campaign against slavery, the Slavers Guild targeted him for revenge contracting a number of bounties on his head. After an assassination attempt on his homeworld of Arapia, Saadoon remained constantly on the move. However, as his size started to make constant relocation difficult, he began to look for a more permanent residence eventually taking up residence in a bulk cruiser. Saadoon place the cruiser, the Merkel, in orbit around Neftali in the Socorro system. Saadoon found the Soccoran culture's abhorrence of slavery as well as the honor among the smugglers and pirates of the system highly appealing. The Soccorans in turned welcomed Saadoon bestowing great power upon him and respecting his authority on many matters in the system.
