Tohno - Page 2

Getting into the facility was no problem for Tohno since the Geonosians, disdaining the cold climate, left only but a scant number of sentries. It was once she got inside that the problems started for Tohno. Before she could plan the explosives, Tohno ran into a squad of Geonosians making short work of them with only minimal damage. As Tohno made her way through the facility, planting the explosives, it was only a matter of time before she was discovered and an alarm raised. In communications with Obi-Wan and Anakin in the field, Tohno assured them she would complete her mission, but that escape was doubtful. She ordered the Jedi not to put troops at risk saving her; the mission was the destruction of the factory, and she would see to its success.

While Obi-Wan could accept this unfortunate turn of events, Anakin could not. His fears and objections with having Tohno die erupted into him stealing a gunship and making an attack run in an attempt to save her. Speaking to Anakin as he approached Tohno was able to convince him that, as Jedi, their duties call them to face death and accept it when it comes. She reminded him his duty was to his troops and to the Republic, not to her. She had completed her part of the mission which had sealed her fate, and she tasked him to complete his. Reluctantly Anakin turned the gunship around to rejoin his forces in continuing the diversion.

As Tohno laid the last of the explosives, the Geonosians had her surrounded. Fending them off with her lightsaber, Tohno was inevitably outnumbered. In her final moments, as the swarmed around her, Tohno sent her lightsaber plunging into the detonators setting off the bombs. The resulting explosion was as big as the battlefield itself, completely engulfing and destroying the droid factory, as well as Tohno herself. A model of self-sacrifice, Tohno exemplified a Jedi Knight as she became one with the Force, completely at ease with the idea of dying for something greater than herself.
