Ood Bnar was a member of the Ryyk species, a species known for its longevity, members of which have been known to survive for millennia. When Ood was still in his youth, he was orphaned on the planet Myrkr. Eventually Ood discovered the ways of the Force and attained the rank of Jedi Knight millennia before the Hyperspace Wars and the fall of the Sith Empire. Dedicating his life to study and research, Ood was a Jedi scholar for centuries and even became the gatekeeper of a Jedi holocron. So intense was his study, Ood was one of the few Jedi Masters to who learned the secrets of the Dark Side and those of the Sith without succumbing to their temptations. With his knowledge, Ood became an invaluable resource to the Jedi, who often came to him for help in defeating their enemies.
Not so much a tactician as some of his Jedi counterparts, Ood's knowledge allowed him to provide the Jedi with information about their enemies they were able to use to exploit their foes' weaknesses. Ood's knowledge was so extensive, he eventually recorded it in a holocron of his own. This holocron was passed from Jedi Master to Jedi Master, and eventually fell into the hands of Jedi Master Arca Jeth of Arkania, who in turn, passed it on to Jedi Master Thon of Ambria, and he used to holocron in his training of Jedi Knight Nomi Sunrider. Ood often had visions of a war to come between the Light and Dark sides of the Force, and in his holocron, Ood predicted that Nomi Sunrider would play an important part role in the upcoming conflict.
When Ood's vision proved to be true, and the galaxy was thrust into conflict by the Krath, Ood spent much of his time on the Jedi planet of Ossus. When Ulic Qel-Droma made his plans to infiltrate the Krath on a mission to destroy it from within, Ood was able to provide him with the definitive history of the Empress Teta System, the home base of the Krath. As the war raged on, and the galaxy was plunged further into conflict, Ood served on a makeshift council of Jedi Masters operating on Ossus that discussed strategy and issues concerning the war. It was here Ood remained until the Krath caused the Cron Cluster, a system of ten unstable stars, to go supernova, sending a shockwave toward Ossus threatening to destroy the planet.
