Sensing Quinlan, they sent him thoughts to remind him of the Jedi Code, to control his fear, and that there was no strength greater than the Light. With their help, Quinlan defeated Karkko as he was severed in half. With the temple falling down around them, Zao, Tholme, Tr'a Saa, Quinlan, and his Padawan were rescued by Vilmarh who was able to retrieve his starship. Leaving Kiffex behind, Zao and his companions traveled to Kiffu to meet up with Mace Windu and other Jedi Masters who had come when the threat of Karkko had been realized. With Quinlan finally reconciled with Aayla, and the current threat resolved, the wind picked up again and Zao allowed himself to be blown wherever the Force wanted him next.
